TOWN OF CHENANGO – Chenango Forks 56, Sidney 0:
At Chenango Forks, scores from Dylan Studer, Trevor Borchardt (on a pass from LJ Watson) and Tim McDonald in a three-minute span in the first quarter carried the host Blue Devils to a win in a Section 4 Football Conference matchup.

The scoring continued in the second quarter with Watson scoring, this time with his legs.

Offense was not the only side to get involved for the Devils as Cody Lamond helped to put CF up 35-0 in the first half with an interception returned for a touchdown.

The Blue Devils’ defense played a big role in this one, not just with the interception return, but they also allowed just 5 yards rushing and grabbing four interceptions.

Chenango Forks bounced back from its 28-21 loss last week to Maine-Endwell.

Top squads brace for Week 3

Three Section 4 football teams will make their season debut as the top-ranked squads in their respective enrollment classification this weekend.

New York State Sports Writers Association rankings revealed this week show Maine-Endwell atop the Class A pile, Chenango Forks heading Class C and Tioga Central No. 1 in Class D. Forks is the lone No. 1 among the five classes with a loss— and a sensible choice to begin at the top despite that 28-21 setback absorbed last Saturday from M-E.

The Spartans take to Susquehanna Valley for a 1:30 Saturday kickoff accompanied by a 53game win streak that is second-longest nationally among active streaks. The game marks the second in a stretch of four games in five weeks away from home for the Spartans.

Susquehanna Valley (1-1) is coming off a 14-13 win over Norwich in which Brandon Vosbury rushed for 99 yards.

Chenango Forks will play host to Sidney (1-1) at 1:30 Saturday, the Blue Devils’ second of three consecutive home games before hitting the road for three straight. Pass defense will be at a premium for the state’s two-time defending Class C champions. Sidney freshman Darren Smith has thrown for 708 yards and eight touchdowns in the first two games.
